Kentish Cup 2019: UK Armed Forces Footballers Win Fourth Successive Title
The UKAF team beat the Dutch Forces 2-1 to win the competition.
The UK Armed Forces football team have won the 2019 Kentish Cup.
A 2-1 win over the Dutch Forces confirmed UKAF as winners of the competition.
The British team won the Kentish Cup for a record-breaking fourth time.
After the French beat the Dutch 5-0 in the opening game, the UKAF players expected a tough test in their first game.
However, a 4-1 win over the French put them in the driving seat and favourites to win the tournament.
That meant just a draw was needed against the Dutch, but UKAF made the perfect start.
Jake Gosling's great flick fell perfectly into the path of Dan Stoneman who rifled in after just two minutes.
It was a corner that led to UKAF's second goal.
Dan Kerr's in-swinging delivery should have been dealt with by the Dutch defence, but Ryan Paddock took advantage of an error to make it 2-0.
Captain Rob Farks grabbed a goal in the victory against the French and he nearly scored two in as many games.
He played a nice one-two with Gosling and unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that hit the crossbar from 30 yards.
UKAF would hit the wood-work a second time through Alex Woodhouse, but a defensive mistake allowed the Dutch back into the game before half-time.
Farks played a pass back to goalkeeper Luke Cairney but it was underhit. The shot-stopper failed to clear far enough and Richard Schun put the ball in the empty net.
In the second half, UKAF went close a number of times, but more importantly, their defence stood tall.
The British team held on to the win and in doing so made some history by winning the Kentish Cup for the fourth consecutive time.
